A thorough vision exam begins with a complete history. It is important for the doctor to know what systemic health conditions you have because many chronic conditions, such as diabetes and hypertension, can affect the eyes. Next, the visual status of your eyes will be assessed in order to give you the best optical correction. Lastly, the ocular health will be examined, including screening for eye problems including glaucoma, dry eyes, macular degeneration and cataracts.
